Headphone has become a
necessity for modern people. For students, whether they are listening to music
for relaxing or learning languages, they are inseparable from the use of
headphones. However, the Ministry of Health and Welfare reminded the public
that wearing headphones for a long time may cause irreversible damage to the
ears.
As Yan, Wei-Lun, the medical officer of the
infirmary at Fu Hsing Kang Campus, pointed out: "When individuals use
headphones for a long time with the high volume, it will first damage their
high-frequency hearing. Therefore, do not exceed 60% of the maximum volume when
listening to music with MP3. In addition, headphone users should take a rest
every half to 1 hour. In high-noise environments, people can also prepare
earplugs to protect the ears."
The Ministry of Health and Welfare also
indicated that in the early stage of hearing loss, the disconnection of the
auditory nerve fibers in the ear and the brain is a hidden danger that causes
the eardrum damage in the future. Impaired hearing is irreparable for a
lifetime. Therefore, students should develop the correct habit of using
headphones during the schooling period and adapt the concept of
"prevention is better than cure" to minimize the impact of headphones
on the ears.
